Included in the Dallas Museum of Art Black History Month Celebration “Almost Free” encapsulates the incomplete journey of Freedman Town, a community that has historically endeavored for freedom and identity, yet continues to grapple with issues of recognition and remembrance in contemporary discourse.

Guests will be able to take part in the evolution of this work by writing a letter to Freedman Town that may be featured as the exhibit travels to future cultural spaces.
