Jorge Perez Solano wrote and directed Espiral, the first feature length film out of 3 by him[BI1] [BI2] . Solano’s most recent film La Negrada/The Black Mexicans (2018) isthe first Mexican film to feature an all Afro-Mexican cast. [BI3] A thread that connects Solano’s films is a focus on the often-overlooked effects of colonialism and resulting global economic systems on the present-day lives of Mexican women.
The film will be presented in Spanish with English subtitles. Immediately following the showing, Rafael Tamayo, manager of the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, will converse in Spanish with Mr. Solano. English translation will be available.
